Story: The Honest Woodcutter

An Honest Woodcutter

Long long ago there lived an honest woodcutter in a village. He earned his livelihood selling wood in a nearby market. Once he went out for a forest to cut wood with an iron axe. Suddenly, his axe fell into the river while cutting wood. As a result, he was crying because he could not buy another axe. After a while, a beautiful fairy appeared before him and asked the reason of his crying. He told her everything. So, she took pity on him and dived into the water of the river and came up with a silver axe. Then she asked him if it was his one. He replied, “No”. Again, she dived for the second time and came out with a gold axe and asked him if it was his one. He replied the same. Afterwards, she disappeared in the water and stood before him with the same axe he had lost. Then, he answered, “Yes, it is mine.” The fairy became very glad at the honesty of the woodcutter and rewarded him with all three axes. Moral: “Honesty is always rewarded.”
